pure linux box
finally after these years i have a pure linux box (not dual boot) with not-too-bad hardware config... well... i consider p3 450 MHz 640MB RAM is still runnable with my favorite xfce's light weight and acceptable not-wait-too-long performance. :D
pure linux station that i will be able to setup web services. at first, i thought about getting a NAS which supports media streaming and download protocols. but then, i figured out my old computer wasn't too bad for those jobs - well, i do need to get another usb 2.0 card and perhaps a gigabit NIC (so a corresponding switch)... afterall, they're small money to enjoy a second computer. especially happy that now i can use my same lcd monitor switching back and forth. even so, eventually i will get a nas when there's a sale.
one thing bother me so much was that the power supply is old. i "compress-aired" out the dust before calling it back from "retirement"... however, there's also a doubt if the station can be turned on on for 24/7, after seeing my another old pc, a 386 sx, got on fire in 2005. (yup, it survived untill 3 years ago). test running is in progress for these few days while i'm at home.
080324 - linux couldn't detect the usb card. it wouldn't even boot up but stuck at the black screen. sigh. :(
